Medical Emergency Response Teams MERT
When someone has a medical emergency, workplace injury, or sudden illness, the minutes before EMS arrives belong to the people on site. We build your medical emergency response team, or MERT, with the right people, the right equipment, and the training to act.
Where there is no infirmary, clinic, or hospital in near proximity to the workplace, OSHA requires a person or persons adequately trained to render first aid (29 CFR 1910.151(b), and 1926.50 in construction). Designated responders are also covered by the bloodborne pathogens standard (29 CFR 1910.1030).
A MERT goes further than the minimum, with trained people, placed equipment, and a call-out that works on every shift.
Built, equipped, and trained.
Every proposal spells out the scope for your site. Here is the general shape.
Team design
Who responds, from where, on which shift, and how they are called, written into your emergency plan.
Equipment
AED program support, bleeding control kits, and first aid supplies placed where the team can reach them.
Training
Certification courses in CPR, AED, First Aid, BLS, and bleeding control, with records for your files.
Exercises
Realistic scenarios on your site, with an after-action review built on HSEEP.
From assessment to a ready MERT.
